Benzel-Busch Mercedes-Benz, an automotive dealership with a reputation of excellence, is a sponsor of the 2011 Teaneck International Film Festival. The sixth annual festival is November 11-13. This year the programme will feature at least 30 films, making it the largest in the festival’s history. The guest list features several notable names in the film industry, actors, writers, producers, and directors. The theme of the Teaneck Film Festival this year is “Activism: Making Change.”
Many will be surprised at how affordable the prices are for the festival. Guests can purchase a weekend pass for only $30, which includes access to opening night. If they prefer to purchase single tickets they are only $5 per film, and $10 for the opening night film, which is the New Jersey premiere of Life, Love, Soul. The film opening the festival on November 11 at 7:30 p.m. directed by Noel Calloway features familiar faces from HBO’s The Wire, The Steve Harvey Show and Basketball Wives.
The festival programme will showcase films that examine issues regarding race, religion, gender, age and sexual preference. Gen Silent is a 70-minute documentary regarding elderly gay and lesbian patients so afraid of discrimination they return to the closet. The 2010 winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short was Music by Prudence continues to shine a spotlight on a woman’s love of music. Prudence finds success despite formidable challenges resulting from her disabilities. The Teaneck Film Festival will also feature classics such as Stanley Kubrick’s 1957 Paths of Glory, a film with an antiwar message starring Kirk Douglass. The film brought international acclaim to a young Kubrick.
Benzel-Busch started as a modest family business in the last century, with its early roots in transportation. The business has been around for a long time and has a deep history, yet it remains at the forefront of automotive dealerships, customer service, technology and community involvement. Benzel-Busch is proud to sponsor another year of the Teaneck Film Festival – finding this year’s theme of “Activism: Making Change” very relevant and interesting.
