In fully electric mode, the A3 can travel up to 31 miles, all thanks to its 8.8 kWh battery. And though the A3 Sportback e-tron® can zoom from A to B while running purely on electric power—with the option of switching to gas power, or a combination of the two—it would be a mistake to label the e-tron® as simply a “hybrid.” After all, this is an Audi we’re talking about—and this dazzling new PHEV is unlike any vehicle that motorists have laid eyes on before. The electric motor provides a smooth, quiet drive, all without sacrificing Audi’s signature split-second responsiveness, via its 243 lb-ft of torque. Combine that motor with its gas engine, and the e-tron® couples plenty of 204-horsepower growl with its razor-sharp handling.
Compared to other available plug-in electrics, including the Prius, Volt, and BMW i3, Audi has built the e-tron® to be both more sophisticated and more practical.
