Humans and horses have always had a special bond. Like people, horses are social animals. They are emotional, alert and live within hierarchical structures similar to ours. They pick up on our feelings, and reflect them back to us. It’s a powerful exchange—especially for young people and people with disabilities.
This year Benzel-Busch provided both a smart car and a Mercedes-Benz C300 4MATIC sedan for two chances to win!
The Classic brought out a great crowd of more than 100 people, and 90 golfers. The event raised $100,000, which will be dedicated to supporting Pony Power scholarships for students with special needs.
Pony Power Therapies was founded in 2000 by Dana Spett. Through research and her own experience with horses, Spett understood the benefits of the bond one can feel with such an intuitive animal. The experience of connecting with a horse is pure, and the contact and emotional connection can be life changing.
Pony Power offers therapy programs to a wide range of individuals with physical, emotional and behavioral disabilities: special-needs children, veterans, pediatric hospice clients, victims of domestic violence, and many others. Riding can bring greater flexibility, balance and muscle strength. And the relationship that develops can lead to improved communication skills and increased confidence, patience and self-esteem.
We look forward to supporting this innovative organization for years to come.
