Dr. Martha MacGuffie was a New York plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose most passionate work affects people a world away, in Kenya. Children there are exposed to AIDS and other diseases at incredibly high rates, and certain Kenyan provinces have some of the highest death rates on earth. That is why Dr. MacGuffie founded SHARE Africa: a non-profit dedicated to improving living conditions in this part of the world.
Dr. MacGuffie passed away last year, but SHARE Africa continues to have a huge impact. We at Benzel-Busch intend to help keep Dr. MacGuffie’s vision alive.
The organization’s first-annual Dr. Martha MacGuffie Memorial SHARE Africa Golf Outing, Presented by Sotheby's, took place on September 24th. Benzel-Busch Mercedes was proud to be a hole-in-one sponsor.
Dr. MacGuffie and pediatric hematologist Dr. Renée M. Brilliant founded SHARE Africa in 1987. The non-profit’s mission is to positively impact healthcare, economic stability and education there—and it does so through orphan sponsorship programs, emergency medical services programs, women’s empowerment and healthcare initiatives.
The golfing event was held at the Rockland Country Club in Sparkill, New York, on a 19-hole course. The tournament was followed by a cocktail hour and awards dinner. And, of course, all proceeds went directly to funding SHARE’s programs.
This year’s Dr. Martha MacGuffie Memorial SHARE Africa Golf Outing is over, but there are still many opportunities to have a huge impact on the life of a Kenyan who needs support.
