2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE Coupe Research by Benzel-Busch

The AMG GLE 53 Coupe rushes ahead with triple-boosted torque, one of them electric, a digital cockpit with class-leading technology, and a powerful fusion of SUV capability and AMG coupe character.

Unlike most anything else on the road or off, the soul of the AMG GLE 53 Coupe is apparent in its muscular body. From its vertical-bar AMG grille and deep front apron to its standard 21-inch wheels and sweeping roofline, its athletic stance is brought to life on any road.

The seamless power and natural balance of an inline-6 have returned with another Mercedes-AMG tradition: a technological leap forward. The lightweight, fully beltless engine is also electrified: An Integrated Starter-Generator can supply up to 21 hp and 184 lb-ft at certain rpm, allow gas-free coasting, and recapture energy during deceleration. With a twin-scroll turbo and electric auxiliary compressor, the gas engine outputs 429 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque on its own, for quick, efficient response.

Endeavoring to make the SUV sporty, Mercedes has delivered a delightfully fun-to-drive offering in the 2022 GLE-Class Coupe. The lineup's only model this year, the AMG-tuned GLE53, is a big, powerful performance machine, providing a smooth and responsive hybrid straight-six powertrain and a predictable, well-tuned suspension that together help the Coupe drive more like a hot hatch than a sport ute on twisty roads.

Whatever you want to call it, the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe is a high-tech luxury SUV with thrilling performance. You get a choice of a turbocharged inline-6 or a turbo V8. The 6-cylinder is good, but we highly recommend the V8 if you have the means.
